Amplified By Hank

Things I Amplify from the web

One of the best shows of all time…

Good little overview of one of my favorite classic tv series.

Amplifyd from www.rutherford.org
On Friday, October 2, 1959, The Twilight Zone premiered on national television. Even though it was never a top 25 show, The Twilight Zone was an oasis in television wasteland that captured a generation. However, it almost didn't happen. Its subject matter troubled television executives, and the fact that the episodes often left viewers hanging went against formula.
"Everything leads us to believe that there exists a spot in the mind from which life and death, the real and imaginary," writes surrealist Andre Breton, "the past and the future, the high and the low, the communicable and the incommunicable will cease to appear contradictory."

To paraphrase Rod Serling, no tickets are needed to enter The Twilight Zone. All one needs is imagination.

And then they ask why

The LDS Church teaches to seek after truth where ever it may be found. When some find a truth and profess that truth, they are scorned and ridiculed. The lucky few make it out unscathed.

There are a couple ideas very heavily engrained into a Mormon's head through all of the structure and doctrine of the church.  The first is to seek truth (wherever it is to be found--from scripture and from secular knowledge as well) and the second is to proclaim that truth--in particular, the gospel truth.  I feel that both of these are very noble pursuits.  I was taught to do that while I was a Mormon and even now I view both as wise things to do.  There is so much falsehood out there in the world--so much fraud and dishonesty--that the truth is a welcome breath of fresh air whenever it is encountered.  Also, the truth empowers the mind and enlightens the soul.  It brings lasting happiness.  This is why Mormons are taught to (and desire to) teach the truth that they have learned to anyone who will listen.

The rich keep getting richer…

...and the poor keep getting poorer.

Amplifyd from www.commondreams.org

As background, it helps to know what has been happening to incomes over the past three decades. Detailed estimates from the Congressional Budget Office — which only go up to 2005, but the basic picture surely hasn’t changed — show that between 1979 and 2005 the inflation-adjusted income of families in the middle of the income distribution rose 21 percent. That’s growth, but it’s slow, especially compared with the 100 percent rise in median income over a generation after World War II.

Meanwhile, over the same period, the income of the very rich, the top 100th of 1 percent of the income distribution, rose by 480 percent. No, that isn’t a misprint. In 2005 dollars, the average annual income of that group rose from $4.2 million to $24.3 million.

Mencing Words

If God is a creature of Spirit, why did God create creatures of spirit and imprisoned said creatures within physical bodies?
And God said Let us make man in our image after our likeness and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth Gen 1:26

בְּצַלְמֵ֖נוּ be·tzal·me·nu = our image
כִּדְמוּתֵ֑נוּ kid·mu·te·nu; = to our likeness

Ergo, man was created in the image of a God with a physical body.

Though God, being omnipotent, can take on ANY form such as man, cow, chicken, cloud… dare I say it?  God can take on the form as a woman if so choosing to do so, none the less, God is Spirit - genderless.  Sometimes people forget that words are symbols, used to communicate a message.  So how would someone describe the One in charge to a patriarchal society?  How about using the term that describes the leader, such as Father?  What about a matriarchal society?  How about using the term that describes the leader, such as Mother?  Finding the proper word to portray that which has no comparison is a most difficult task.  There was once a Star Trek movie where Dr McCoy was asking Spock what it was like to be dead.  Spock’s reply was to the concept of, “How can I explain something which has no frame of reference?”   And, so it is also with a presence such of that as God.

Faith dictating policy?

Is that what we should expect from this politician if he is elected?

Rick Perry: ‘As a Christian . . . I stand with Israel’

“I also as a Christian have a clear directive to support Israel, so from my perspective it’s pretty easy,” Perry said when a reporter asked if Perry’s faith was driving his views, according to the Associated Press. “Both as an American and as a Christian, I am going to stand with Israel.”

Where did the idea of a militant God come from?

Greg Boyd expresses an idea of where the idea of a militant Christian God came from.... URL:  www.patheos.com

Is it theory or religion?

A theory is nothing more than an attempt explain a given subject based on principles that are independent of the subject being explained.

A religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Whereas, faith complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

Based on these definitions, I think the writer of this post jumps to the wrong conclusions.

have decided, ancient alien theory boils down to “if it isn’t around today, the aliens must have made it”. apparently ancient aliens were shoddy workmen…. or, “all religious figures were ancient aliens”. like, no humans have ever been smart or curious enough to reflect upon their place in the universe…. bunch of alien-worshipers.

I believe Jesus Christ was who he said he was.  I don’t call my belief a “theory”.  It’s my faith.  Ancient-alien “theorists” should also claim their faith for what it is, Alien worship, or something else….  I found it very telling, when pressed by Ben Stein in his documentary film, Richard Dawkins, the quintessential evolutionary “theorist”, expressed his belief that since God didn’t exist, space aliens may have seeded life on earth.  It makes me wonder whether God-like Evolution (Dawkins’ religion) and Ancient Alien Theory are really two arms of the same religion, trying to squeeze the life out of the belief in God.

Lunar No-fly Zones

I guess we can forget about serious Lunar colonies.

Amplifyd from www.disinfo.com

No-fly zones will come into effect on the moon for the very first time by the end of this month! Why, even buffer zones that spacecraft may have to avoid will come into existence. The reason: avoiding any spraying of rocket exhaust or dust onto certain historical sites and artifacts on the moon.
